Frequently Asked Questions

Can I sell my games? If so, How?

There are no hidden license conditions on produced games, you are free to sell them, give them away or distribute them in any way you like, including the source code. You do not need to credit us in any way, so yes, you can sell your games!

You could even try submitting your game to a games company like Electronic Arts, but it is unlikely that it will be accepted, as games created with DS Game Maker are not created with the official development software from Nintendo.

Another distribution option which is gaining in popularity is Shareware. With Shareware you place a demo of the game with some levels on the internet and charge money for the rest of the game.

Bear in mind that with Shareware, you need your own way of allowing customers to pay for the extra material, which may include an online payment gateway and a website. You can, of course, use services like PayPal and Webs.com to do this.

How is DSGM Utilized in Education?

At the moment we are not aware of DSGM being used in any schools or colleges but a number of efforts and programs are underway to have it so.

  • Mike Ploor is writing a book on game design and creation which is based around DS Game Maker
  • The use of DSGM within ICT lessons is being proposed to schools in Calderdale
